Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Booking a photographer

Q. Why should I invest in a professional photoshoot? A. For me, photography has a unique way of connecting us to special events and important people in our lives. Photos bring our memories back to life. An investment in a photoshoot is an investment in your family memories. When you have photos taken by a good professional, they'll use high-quality equipment that will help to capture you and your family in your best-possible light; they'll know all the right tips and tricks to help you to recognise and appreciate all the little details that you otherwise might have forgotten; they'll help you preserve these special moments in an artistic way that you can't by taking a photo with your iPhone or basic point and shoot camera.

Q. What should I be looking for in a photographer? A. When you're booking in a session with a photographer, you're essentially inviting someone into your world to capture and celebrate important milestones for your family. Choosing someone who takes good photos is definitely important - you’ll want someone who is an expert in their craft, who loves photography, knows good light, can give direction where required and has quality camera equipment In addition to someone with skills and experience, you should look for a photographer who’ll make you and your loved ones feel comfortable in front of the camera. Someone who is personable, inclusive and has experience working with people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. A good photographer will make an effort to get to know you and your priorities for your session so that they are able to perfectly capture you and your loved ones. For newborn and family sessions, they must be good with kids - that is empathetic, flexible, patient and (most importantly) fun!

2. Packages and inclusions

Q. Do you offer gift vouchers? A. I certainly do. You can purchase either a set amount (if you have a budget in mind) that can go towards the cost of a photoshoot (newborn, maternity, family, etc), or you can purchase a package. Gift vouchers will be delivered to you (or the recipient) in digital format.

Q. Where do you travel? A. I offer complimentary travel within the Greater Sydney region - please note a travel fee may apply beyond this.

Q. Do you offer discounts? A. I offer a discounted rate for clients that book their maternity session at the same time as their newborn session. Please get in touch to find out more.

Q. My parents are visiting and would like to be included in the photoshoot as well - is that possible? A. All my packages cover immediate family members only. Additional family members are welcome, however an additional fee will apply.

Q. What do you charge for your sessions? A. My packages start from $500. Get in touch and I’ll follow up with full pricing information.

Q. What do your packages include? A. Each package includes: - A pre-consultation chat over the phone. - A photography session either at home or on-location. - Professionally retouched digital images, made available in a password-protected online gallery. - Access to my client closet for mums & babies for newborn and maternity sessions. - Family pets are welcome. Please note a small deposit must be paid upfront to secure your booking.

3. Bookings

Q. How do I make a booking? A. To make a booking, please get in touch via my enquiry form.

Q. What happens after I make a booking? A. Once we've agreed on a date for your session, you'll be sent a confirmation email with details on how to pay your deposit. You'll also receive a contract to sign and a questionnaire to help me understand a little bit more about you and your expectations. Once your deposit is received, you'll receive an email confirming your booking as well as a guide on how to prepare for your session.

Q. What happens if we're sick on the day of the shoot? A. The safety of my clients (and their families) is incredibly important to me. If anyone who is due to participate in the shoot (including myself) is sick or displaying symptoms of illness in the lead up to or on the day of the shoot, get in touch as soon as possible and we will discuss options to reschedule the session.

4. Sessions & Galleries

Q. Do you pick the location or do we? A. I know that sometimes choosing a location for a photoshoot can feel pretty overwhelming – there are so many beautiful and photogenic places in Sydney. I do have a handful of locations that I love to shoot at, from beaches through to parks and urban landscapes, however if there is a certain place that holds a special significance for you, please let me know and we can chat through options!

Q. How do I decide what to wear for my photoshoot? A. I also suggest to look at wearing pastels, light colours, or neutrals. Bright or fluoro colours often look garish and intense, as can heavy stripes or patterns. Generally try to complement across everyone in the shoot - steer clear of being too matchy-matchy. Textured neutrals, .e. knits, linen or cotton, tend to photograph really well. Mums & bubs - if you're opting for a maternity or newborn shoot, I have you covered with my client wardrobe. All items come washed & steamed, ready for you to wear. Feel free to pick a couple of different options!

Q. What do I get in my gallery? A. You'll receive a range of photos in your final gallery - a mix of posed and candid, individual portraits, different family member combinations (incl. pets), macro shots (for newborn sessions).

Q. Do you edit in black and white? A. As part of your gallery, you will receive photos that are edited in both black and white and colour.

Q. Do I get to pick my photos? A. After your session, you'll receive a professionally edited and carefully curated gallery with a range of images to choose from. You'll also have the option to upgrade your package if you choose.

Q. Do you edit our photos? A. Each image is carefully curated and edited by myself. I don't just mass apply filters or presets. I don't outsource any part of my process to third parties. I'm often asked for my newborn sessions if I'm able to remove baby acne or flakey skin - this is absolutely possible and can be achieved in post production.

Q. What happens after the session? A. I’ll send you some sneak peeks within 7 days of your session, and the full gallery via a private, downloadable web gallery within 4 weeks for you to choose your nominated images for professional retouching. Once your images have been retouched, they'll made be available for you to download in both high-resolution (for printing) and low-resolution (for sharing).
